Unit History

The organization meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary to Lincolnville Post was held at eight o’clock Friday, January 20, 1947 in the Benevolent Hall on St. Francis Street. Mrs. T.R. Lewis, President of Unit # 37 opened the meeting. There were ten applications presented and eight candidates present. The following officers of Unit # 37 assisted Mrs. Lewis:


  • 1st Vice President Mrs. W.J. Winter

  • 2nd Vice President Mrs. Jerry Lane 

  • Treasurer Mrs. Charles Kelly

  • Secretary Mrs. Eurnie Griffin

  • Historian Mrs. O.F. Kixmiller

  • Chaplain Mrs. George Scoville

  • Sgt-at-Arms Mrs. J.N. Dempsey

  • Assistant Sgt-at-Arms Miss Elsie Usina.


Mrs. Dempsey, past District Sgt-at-Arms presented the candidates to the president for initiation into the Auxiliary.  Mrs. Lewis turned the meeting over to Mrs. A.L. Phillips, past District President, for election of officers. Those being unanimously elected were:

  • President – Ada Rembert 

  • 1st vice Pres. Ethel Jones

  • 2nd  Vice Pres. Louise Hampton

  • Secretary – Bonzolla Stroman

  • Treasurer – Jennie Crummer

  • Chaplain – Elaira Waitman

  • Historian – (installed by proxy) Ruby Brown

  • Sgt-at-Arms – Willie Mae Thomas.

  • The office of assistant Sgt-at –Arms is pending.


The Auxiliary of Post 194 has always been an integral part of - and a vital support group for the American Legion and Post 194. Since 1947 they have assisted and supported the Post in their many endeavors and events.  The Auxiliary fund-raisers benefit Post 194, veterans and the community.  The Auxiliary serves the community well; the American Legion, and Post 194.  The Auxiliary presence and their dedication to serve their country deserves a BIG SALUTE For a job well done!
